  • How Are Survival Lessons (Guppy, Otter, and Dolphin Programs) Structured?

Swimming lessons are one-on-one, approximately 10 minutes in length, usually 4-6 weeks. Each swim lesson builds upon the previous day's lesson, so there is measurable progress each week.

  • How soon will my child be swimming?

Children participating in the Guppy, Otter, and Dolphin Programs typically are either independently floating and/or able to swim-float-swim by the end of 6 weeks. If the child will need additional time we will discuss this with you.

***If you have a child with special needs, it is likely that more time than what is mentioned above will be needed to complete the program. You would need to speak with us about this matter before choosing a class.***

  • What if my child needs extra time?

Should your child need extra time, the cost is $100.00 per week regardless of whether he/she is enrolled in the Guppy, Otter, or Dolphin class.

  • What are the Parent's Roles?

We encourage parents of toddlers to get in the water for the first few lessons so that your child will experience less stranger and separation anxiety. Our goal for children of all ages is to establish a relationship of trust between your child and the instructor. Once this occurs, your child will learn to trust him/herself in the water and real progress begins.

  • How Can You Teach a Baby Who Cannot Talk?

Swimming and floating are motor skills that can be taught to a baby through repetitive exercises, along with gentle verbal encouragement. We show the babies what we want them to do, and over a short period of time, they learn the skills necessary to survive. Be assured, we do not throw children into the water! We use a variety of methods, combining the best ideas from swim schools and infant/toddler programs throughout the world. Our goal is to make learning fun so that your child will love his water experience.

  • If we have vacation planned, is it ok to miss a week of lessons?

We encourage you to plan your vacation around swim lessons. The consistency of regular attendance will set your child up for success. We understand that life is busy and things come up, so missing a lesson here or there is ok.

Please note: you will still be invoiced for lessons missed and that your child’s progress is determined by their attendance.

  • What is your weather policy?

We will cancel lessons if lightning is nearby or if the wind is extreme to the point of being dangerous. Please note that the weather can be quite different in your location than ours. We do not cancel lessons because it’s raining. The pool water is 83-90 degrees, so your child will be warm while swimming. If we have to cancel your lesson due to lightning, we will make up that lesson another day that week. If you choose to cancel your lesson while we are still working, you are forfeiting your lesson for that day and we cannot guarantee a makeup slot will be available.

  • What about ear infections?

There are two types of ear infections, one is caused by middle ear build-up secondary to Eustachian tube congestion & the other is caused by pool or bath water not drying up in the outer ear canal “Swimmers’ Ear”. To prevent the latter, ask your pediatrician about the use of ear drops that are available at your local pharmacy. Swimming does not cause middle ear infections. Children with ventilation tubes must first get a medical clearance from their pediatrician before starting swim lessons and should wear ear plugs, a tight fitting cap, and should not swim deeper than a foot below the surface of the water.

  • What happens if I want to discontinue lessons in the middle of a session?

You are responsible for paying the remainder of the lessons signed up for (6 weeks of lessons total). Your card on file will be charged for the remainder of the lessons.

  • Do you have a cancellation policy?

Cancellations for the Guppy, Otter, and Dolphin program are not charged a cancellation fee because they are prepaid lessons. Please note that missing lessons in this program can be detrimental to your child’s learning experience and no refunds will be given for missed lessons.
